Did anyone else have a hard time learning to drive?
Or was I the only one?
Looking back, I can see how my poor driving skills were actually a good thing.
It was just another day in the store.
Mom and I were even more frequent customers at this point.
It was summer of 2012.
Over a year since I had first laid eyes on him . . .
We had greeted each other with a hello or a smile, but I don't believe that we had ever had a full conversation until that summer.
I had been dying to talk to him. . .
His aunt worked at the store with him as well, and we had regular conversations with her.
One day, my mom began talking about my driving skills. I was sixteen and had just begun taking driver's ed, but still was not very comfortable with the whole idea. I guess I was a little slow on the draw.
Shawn immediately joined in the conversation and proceeded to give me driving tips and tell me about his driver's ed teachers. I was just so glad to be talking to him. He even offered to come over and show me some tricks to passing the maneuverability course. I was a little taken aback and knew that I was not going to have him over ( that would be much too forward!). So I thanked him for the offer and went on with the day.
That was the first of many conversations that centered around my learning to drive.
Little did I know that another long year later. . .
Stay tuned for more . . .
Keep living joyfully,
Melody Maynard
